    March 27, 2017, 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM @ Library

Would your child benefit from a Reading Buddy? When younger students read with older students, literacy skills are picked up in an enjoyable manner. The Parkland Juniorettes, high school girls dedicated to making a difference, have partnered with the Parkland Library to help younger students with reading. Building partnerships between our high-achieving high school students and elementary-age children is an excellent way to reinforce lifelong reading success. (Note: On the Mondays that school is closed, Reading Buddies will not meet.) Registration is not required; just meet at the desk in the center of the library. 9. It’s Greek to Me: Timely Tales from Greek Mythology and Art (adults and teens)

    March 30, 2017, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM @ Library

The antics of the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece have intrigued and delighted both children and adults for literally thousands of years. Their stories are part of our western culture, inspiring writers from William Shakespeare to Rick Riordan (his Percy Jackson series has given new life to Perseus in the 21st century). Today it is still fun for us to imagine the great Zeus and his brothers and sisters sitting atop Mt. Olympus meting out rewards and punishments to the mortals below. Join Dr. Margery Marcus as she discusses the origins of Greek mythology and colorfully recounts many of its famous tales, while sharing the masterpieces of art based on the great stories. Registration required. To register visit www.cityofparkland.org/library or call (954)757-4207.
